Term 2 Week 4


Welcome To Week Four
Hello to you all. We are now back on track and everyone is enjoying being with their friends and learning with them,  back at school. 

Congratulations
These people have all been busy using our "Study Ladder" app.
 At various points along their learning journey, in "Study Ladder," the children are awarded certificates to highlight their progress. 
Well done to you all!!!


FEBRUARY
We came outside to observe our calendar and discuss the unusualness of the month of February. We noted the spelling of the word and I pointed out the silent "r" that many adults forget about! We then had a guess at how many days there were in February and the discussed the reason that there are 29 days every four years in this month. 
The learners thought that it was very strange that we could just add another day on to a month.


PSPE
The class discussed the word "Teamwork." We then shared our ideas about what makes a good team, what jobs are there in a team and then we broke up into groups to develop and practice our teamwork skills.




English

This week in our English classes we have been focusing on; reading comprehension, editing and writing skills. As much as possible the children will read to an adult in the class and discuss the events in their story.
  There are activities where the children work by themselves and other occasions where they can work as a team to finalize their work. There is also time for the learners to improve their phonics skills through the "Reading Eggs" app.















Maths
In maths we continue to learn our 2 and 5 times tables. Some of the students are very proficient at this now and other times tables are being introduced to further their development.
We have been witnessing the effect of adding a "tens number" with a "ones number"
We were investigating the links between adding problems and subtraction problems..






Unit of Inquiry
What Do you know about Light?

We began a new unit of inquiry and the science part of the inquiry will focus around "light"
This week we shared what we already know about this topic and we had many knowledgeable answers, such as; light feeds plants, helps us to see, can get it from a candle or a torch amongst others. As part of the investigation this week we thought about how we can draw shadows to make our art works become more real.







Library
Visiting the library is always fun. Please a reminder here if you will.....
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR LIBRARY FOLDER TO SCHOOL ON A THESDAY!!!




Videos

During our enforced online learning the learners were challenged to show what they knew and what they were learning about in new and inventive ways. Many students did! 
Throughout the blogs from now on we would to share those videos that the students make around their knowledge progress and their learning.

Welcome to week 12's blog This week we were busy preparing for our assembly and we hope that you enjoyed the children's thoughts on how they have overcome an adversity in their life. The videos were sent out via the line group this week. Maths This week we have been discovering what fractions are, and how we can write them as numbers. We have learned about halves, quarters and thirds. We learned about the words "denominator" and "numerator" fractions are also useful when we are talking bout telling the time and that is what we will be investigating next week. Library miss Marie really enjoys when we visit the library. We love going there to hear her stories and choosing new books to take home. there is always an interesting activity to complete. Yahoo... we are back at school!

Congratulations Well done to the students who have worked on "Study Ladder" during our qurentine period. these activities are extra learning fun to emphasie the learning that we do in class. This week we were learning about right angles and the different ways that we can reposition shapes. Next week we will be focusing on learning our three time table and properties of three dimensional shapes, as we hope to add the knowledge of angles we learnt this week. English Writing  Our writing has two focuses at the moment. We are trying to improve our grammar and editing skills as well as write interesting stories. This week we started a story online and completed it at school. We asked the children to write about their feelings about learning online. They were able to say why they liked or disliked this situation. Next week we will continue to focus our attention on increasing the amount of words that we write in a story and try to edit the story as best as we can.   Maths ...
